Wednesday 5th October

Today I passed my psychometric tests in derby and then came back to college to finish off our drill routine for tomorrow.

The psychometric was a lot harder then i originally thought, those of you who are looking at joining either the Royal Marines or the Navy you will have to pass these tests. The test is split up into four parts; Reasoning test, a Verbal Ability test, a Numerical Reasoning tests and a Mechanical Comprehension Test.

When you first go the carer's office they will give you a presentation on what you are interesting in doing, for example Royal Marines and then they will then give you a few information booklets which includes a practice booklet for psychometric tests. The questions in this booklet are a lot easier then the one in the actually test.

If you want more practice psychometric test you can purchase them on this link:

Please be-aware if you don't pass your psychometric tests you will have to wait 6 months to take it again so purchasing the test online is well worth considering.

Year 2 Week 4

I am now in my fourth week of the second year. Last year i managed to get through my first year with 2 passes 3 merits and 4 distinctions which i was fairly pleased with.

This year i have managed to get into the Uniformed Services Drill Display Team so I've spent most of today at college practicing our routine, which we will be displaying in London in three days time!
So really need to make sure our drill is up to scratch as we will be representing the college.

This year I'm going to try and update this blog at least once a week as a failed miserably at it last year, I will also try and get as more photo on here as well.

15th December - UPS Inter-Service Competition

On the 15th December we took part in the UPS inter-Service Competition.
This is a competition between all the groups on Uniformed Public Services, as part of the competition we all have to dress up in different costumes.
Me and my group went as cowboys.
The competition consisited of lots of different tasks which we would get marked on.
Me and my team ( Group 2)  came an overall 4th which isn't to bad.

Week 12

On Monday 29th November Martin Clarke came into to college and gave us a 3 hour presentation on road safety.
He told stories of people who had been drinking and driving and crash causing serious injuryes to people and afew fatalities. He also showed us videos and pictures of car crashes and the damage drunk people can cause. He also showed us different accidents and how wearing seat belt can save your life.

Finally he gave us a leaflet about taking an advanced driving course to make us more aware of people around us and make us into better drivers. If you do this course it could knock off 50% on your car insurance

Wednesday 17th November - Week 10

Grenadier Guards RRT

Yesterday on Wednesday 17th November the Grenadier Guards came to College.
It was interesting to learn that they they’re the guards who stand outside of bucking palace along with the Coldstream Guards but they also go to Afghanistan.

The first activities we did with the Grenadier Guards is what’s called an 'Ice Breaker'.
I think all of us were good at this as we've done this type of ice breaker before when we first joined college.
We then had a look at some of the guns they use out in Afghanistan. I found the sniper the most interesting.
After that we did two different team building exercises.

I enjoyed the activities with the Grenadier Guards and this also could be a job option for me when I leave college.

Tuesday 16th November - Week 10

38 Signal Regiment

Two days ago on Tuesday 16th November the College took us to Manor Top in Sheffield, this was a trip to go and see the 38 Signal Regiment.
When we where there we found out a bit more about what they did and we also got to look at a bowman radio which we are currently studying in communications and technology. After we had a look at the bowman we had a look a few generators which the regiment worked on and some guns which used out in Afghanistan.

I found the trip very interesting and 38 Signal Regiment have invited us back so it was a very successful trip.
